其實，Goodyear 這個名字來自一個真實的故事——一個關於棉花、輪胎、戰爭、和兩個相鄰小鎮共同歷史的故事。而今天的 Goodyear，正在成為鳳凰城西區最值得關注的投資和生活市場之一。
Most people hear "Goodyear" and think tires.
The truth is, Goodyear the city has a fascinating origin story — one that connects directly to Litchfield Park next door, and to a man named Paul Litchfield who shaped the entire West Valley over 100 years ago.
這兩個城市，是同一個人創建的。
These two cities were created by the same man.
1916 年，Goodyear 輪胎橡膠公司的高管 Paul Litchfield，來到亞利桑那尋找長纖維棉花——這是製造充氣輪胎所需的關鍵原料。埃及的棉花因為一戰德國軍艦封鎖地中海而無法進口，美國南部的棉花又因為棉鈴象鼻蟲肆虐而短缺。
Paul Litchfield, executive of Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, came to Arizona in 1916 looking for long-staple cotton — the key ingredient for pneumatic tires. Egyptian cotton was cut off by German vessels blockading the Mediterranean during WWI. American Southern cotton was devastated by the boll weevil.
Litchfield 最終在亞利桑那購入超過兩萬英畝的土地，建立了棉花農場。原本這片土地叫做「Egypt」——因為氣候和土壤條件與埃及相似。後來這片土地逐漸演變成兩個城市：以他命名的 Litchfield Park，和以公司命名的 Goodyear。
Litchfield ultimately purchased over 20,000 acres in Arizona and established cotton farms. The land was originally called "Egypt" — because of its similar climate and soil to Egypt. Over time this land became two cities: Litchfield Park, named after him, and Goodyear, named after his company.
1941 年，二戰爆發，美國國防部在 Southwest Cotton Company 的租地上建造了飛機工廠，由 Goodyear Aircraft 負責運營。隨著飛機工廠和海軍基地的設立，住宅、公寓和零售商店紛紛湧現。1946 年 11 月 19 日，Goodyear 正式建市，當時人口只有 1,250 人。
In 1941, the Defense Department built an aircraft plant on land leased from Southwest Cotton Company, operated by Goodyear Aircraft. With the aircraft plant and naval base came housing, apartments, and retail. On November 19, 1946, the city of Goodyear was officially incorporated with a population of just 1,250.
所以每次曉青姐在 Litchfield Park 開車，看到那些百年棕櫚樹的時候，都會想到：隔壁的 Goodyear，和這裡共享同一個歷史根源。
So every time Charlotte drives through Litchfield Park past those century-old palm trees, she thinks about this: neighboring Goodyear shares the same historical roots — same man, same cotton fields, same story.
